ABOUT THIS CAMPAIGN
This will be our first in-person program since 2019 and we are ready to gather, connect, and learn! For 113 years, Tacoma Community House has provided service to immigrants, refugees, and now, homeless youth with Immigration, Housing, Education, Employment, and Victim of Crime services.
Since March of 2022, Tacoma Community House (TCH) has experienced a significant influx of recently arrived Ukrainian refugees, due to the unprovoked invasion of their country. We have welcomed more than 250 individuals and their 400+ family members who have traveled approximately 5,683 miles to Tacoma; seeking assistance within TCH’s English as a Second Language, Employment, and Immigration Services Programs. Many have found shelter through the generosity of the Slavic communities in Pierce County.
TCH has recently initiated a relief fund to support individual or family specific needs, solicited item donations, as well as hired multiple staff to help these newcomers navigate their new home and the unfamiliar systems they have encountered.
We are also dedicated to serving homeless youth ages 12-24, through The REACH Center. REACH’s 10 Peer Outreach Specialists, all with lived experience, meet one-on-one with homeless youth (many BIPOC and LGBTQ2+) at encampments, shelters, and vehicles, to connect them to housing, employment opportunities, advocacy to mental health services. Currently, there are approximately 860 homeless youth in Pierce County with the number increasing daily.
Please join us to learn more about the array of programming offered by TCH and REACH, focused on family reunification, economic stability, citizenship, education, safety, opportunity, and quality of life.
We expect our event to welcome an estimated 500+ in-person guests. Our goal is to provoke discussion about our programs and raise awareness, which we hope will also raise funds.
