Grants Manager Job Description

Tacoma Community House (TCH) is seeking a Grants Manager to identify potential support from government agencies, foundations, and corporations, in addition to writing and submitting funding proposals while tracking/developing/maintaining reports showing compliance of grant guidelines.

The Grants Manager is a member of the Development and Communications Department, which is responsible for raising $700,000 annually for general operating and our four core programs, as well as continuing to raise funds for our Embracing the American Promise Uniting Communities (Capital) Campaign.

The Grants Manger will work closely with the our Leadership Team, Director of Development and Communications, Department Managers, and a Development and Communications team of eight full-time employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the annual Grants Plan for achieving the agency’s grant-related revenue goals
  • Handle all activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources for TCH programs and capital campaigns, including working with program managers and developing comprehensive case statements/budgets
  • Coordinate and participate in funder site visits
  • Serve as editor for Development and Marketing collateral materials (annual appeal letters, acknowledgement letters, brochures, marketing materials, and grant applications)
  • Conduct prospect research on foundations and corporate funders for both unrestricted operating revenue and program support, including fundraising special events
  • Work with the Finance Department to ensure compliance with all grant reporting as required by foundation and corporate donors
  • Participate in monthly agency budget meetings
  • Cultivate understanding of institutional history and programs
  • Maintain current records in Raiser’s Edge database and in paper files, including grant tracking, reporting, and managing the agency-wide grants calendar
  • Maintain statistics relevant to development and provide department with written materials necessary for donor stewardship (client demographics, program attendance, etc)
  • Other duties as assigned

Successful candidates must demonstrate the following qualities:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Experience

  • A proven track record in the field of grant writing and development
  • Background in responding to the funding needs of program staff

Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to promote a vision, communicate a strategy, and inspire both funders and colleagues
  • Ability to forge solid relationships with public and private funders
  • Ability to clearly and convincingly articulate Tacoma Community House’s vision to current and potential supporters
  • Ability to envision, strategize, plan, and execute in a complex institutional environment
  • Knowledge of and creativity in the use of fundraising systems for research and tracking purposes
  • Knowledge of PC operations and standard software packages as well as database experience, with Raiser’s Edge experience desirable

  • Manual dexterity to include light lifting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and reaching

Salary and Benefits

  • Compensation: $44,000 – $52,000 annually depending on qualifications. Your paycheck is just part of your total compensation package.  Employees also have access to an outstanding employee benefits package worth about 25% of your salary.
