On Saturday, Sept. 17th, 2016, Pierce County will host its 6th annual Citizenship Celebration by swearing in nearly 100 new U.S. citizens. For the past five years, the Citizenship Celebration has drawn hundreds of Pierce County residents with origins spanning over 40 different countries. This event is in honor of Welcoming Week and World Constitution Day (September 17th) which commemorates the signing of the Constitution on September 17, 1787.
United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will start checking in individuals around 10 a.m., with the swearing in ceremony starting at 11 a.m. and ending by noon. The Tacoma Community House choir will perform around 10-10:15 a.m. After the ceremony, attendees are encouraged to register to vote and mingle.
A light breakfast and refreshments will be served. There will also be tables from supporting organizations, voter registration materials, a world map activity, volunteers in traditional costumes, photo opportunities, childcare, and more!
